The Norwegian Pilot Guide consists of sailing directions for the Norwegian coast, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, and is a supplement to the nautical charts.
The Norwegian Pilot Guide, Den norske los, is produced and maintained by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service.
In version 1.0, there will still be content from the pdf editions that has not yet been georeferenced. We are working on this on an ongoing basis. Translation of content into English is not complete.
Important source of information
The publication contains sailing directions for the various fairways and channels. It provides information on harbours, destinations and anchorage areas.
There are also aerial photos, sketches and panoramic views, in addition to information on wind and tidal currents. Other information includes ship and boat yards, marinas, bunkers, local businesses, quay lengths and depths etc.
Alminnelige opplysninger and Svalbard og Jan Mayen
Volume 1 and volume 7 are not yet part of the digital Norwegian Pilot Guide, they will be released at a later date. NB! Last updated May 2018.
Vessels subject to registration are required to have the Norwegian Pilot Guide on board the vessel. However, smaller vessels will also benefit greatly from the Norwegian Pilot Guide, as it is adapted to meet the specific needs for information of the leisure fleet.
The official charts from the Norwegian Hydrographic Service will be updated more frequently than the Pilot Guides. This means that in the case of any inconsistencies between the chart and the Norwegian Pilot Guide, the information in the chart should take precedence.
Notices of corrections to The Norwegian Pilot Guide can be sent by e-mail from dnl.kartverket.no or submit notices of necessary corrections to the Norwegian Hydrographic Service, P.O. Box 60, N-4001 Stavanger, Norway, or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
