Report errors in nautical charts

Have you observed errors or omissions in the nautical chart that you would like to report? Register them in the Norwegian Mapping Authority's service "Rett i kartet".

In the ‘Rett i kartet’ service, you can report errors and omissions in the nautical chart, the establishment and alteration of installations or other information.

Rett i kartet

Everyone can contribute

All users of nautical charts can contribute with feedback, whether it is to a paper nautical chart or a chartplotter with chart data from the Norwegian Mapping Authority.

Nautical charts require updates  and "Rett I kartet" makes it possible to send your remarks directly to us. This helps us to provide seafarers with a safer and better navigation product.

Here's how to do it

You do the registration by registering points, lines and surfaces. You can also attach photos of the sighting, or upload data from a GPS device.

We welcome feedback about errors and omissions in nautical charts that may be navigation-critical. This could be, for example:

  • Underwater shoals and small islands
  • Cables
  • Overhead cables
  • Bridges
  • pipelines
  • Aquaculture
  • quay facilities
  • embankments and breakwaters
  • Sector lights and lanterns
  • buoys and iron poles
  • cairns and beacons

All feedback will be processed and assessed by the Norwegian Mapping Authority before it can be added to the maps. If you want feedback and to see the status of your case, you can also create a user account in the ‘Rett i kartet’-service.

Turnaround

After the report has been registered, the Norwegian Mapping Authority will start processing the information. The processing time will depend on the feedback. The Norwegian Mapping Authority has clear requirements for the data quality and data source used in the nautical charts. Therefore, some reports will be easy to get out in the nautical chart, while other reports will require more investigation.
